Nearly two thirds of all trips under one mile are made by car. These trips could easily be replaced by bicycling or walking. All of us would see benefits: for our health, our pocketbooks, and the world around us.
A family that figures out how to own one less vehicle saves thousands
of dollars per year. Short trips are especially easy to convert to
walking and bicycling.
Forecasters say by 2030 the Twin Cities area will be
home to nearly a million more people than in 2000. Yowza, we better be smart -
more transit-oriented development, more pedestrian and bicycle
facilities, and more courtesy all around.
