The days are getting longer, temperatures are rising, and puddles fill the streets of Minnesota. Summer is on its way and that means June Bike Walk Week is right around the corner.

This year's week will be more active than years past. Beginning on June 4 with the American Heart Walk and ending on June 12th with Bike Walk to the Twins Game, Bike Walk Week promises to highlight the relative ease of getting around by biking or walking throughout the Twin Cities. Last year, more than 7,000 people in the Twin Cities metro area and beyond registered to participate in Bike Walk Week. This year we're aiming to increase that by 30%,! Here's a peek at some of the other key events of Bike Walk Week:

  • Everyone loves a parade and Bike Walk Week will be part of the Grand Old Day Parade on Sunday, June 5, in Saint Paul.

  • Last year's very first Women's Wednesday ride was s a success and we're looking forward to another ride fueled by women this year!

  • Bike Walk Week's staple event, Bike Walk to Work Day, is scheduled for June 9th and is already creating quite the buzz. Groups from Edina to Minneapolis to East St. Paul have already begun planning their own Bike Walk to Work Day celebrations!

  • For all of you who are interested in yoga, this year we're planning a Yoga on the Greenway class Saturday June 11th

Who knows what surprise events may happen during the week?! There is at least more one big event still in the works--visit www.bikewalkweek.org for the latest information.

I am honored work with a great organizing team on planning such a beloved week here in Minnesota. Cyclists here are the reason that Minneapolis un-seated Portland as the #1 city for biking in America and I can't wait to see all of that pedal power on display in June.

If you're a first time cyclist, great! Take advantage of this week and learn some of the new bike paths in your neighborhood. Are you an avid walker? That's great too! Share a story with someone about why you walk and maybe you'll inspire them to get out and get moving. By registering for Bike Walk Week not only are you pledging to get out and get moving at least once during the week, but you'll also be eligible to win awesome prizes. Bike Walk Week is almost here, are you ready to Get Tuned Up and go? Register here for June Bike Walk Week. I'll see you on the streets.
