Women's Wednesday

The Bike Walk Ambassadors led a two-part Women's Wednesday series on June 1 & June 8. Women's Wednesday was created to provide a welcoming space in which women may learn about bicycle maintenance and become more comfortable riding in an urban environment.

The June 1 course focused on basic bicycle maintenance. During this two hour course participants learned the basics: ABC Quick Checks, bicycle fit, helmet fit, minor brake and derailleur adjustments, cleaning and lubrication, and fix-a-flat. There was plenty of time for the participants to ask additional questions about all things bicycling. Additionally, we were able to demonstrate the Nice Ride bicycle share system.

The June 8 Women's Wednesday event began with a basic tutorial on the rules of the road, followed by a Bike Walk Ambassador led group ride around Downtown Minneapolis. The 6.5 mile ride highlighted the Cedar Lake Trail, Minneapolis trails along the Mississippi River, Boom Island, Nicollet Island and Downtown bicycle lanes.

Later this summer the Bike Walk Ambassadors will be hosting a Women's Bike Walk Series. This four to six week series may include a selection of the following:
