Don’t Miss out on Bike Parking—deadline April 29

From Tony Hull, Non-motorized planning and evaluation analyst

Pilot communities are now invited to enroll in the BWTC Bike Parking Program, which provides a guaranteed amount of funding to each eligible community that elects to participate. Follow this link for a map of eligible communities and the amount of funding for bike parking allocated to each. To take advantage of this program, each community must send a letter confirming their participation and complete a community agreement. The agreement will be with the City of Minneapolis, which has been designated to contract with an approved vendor for this program. A letter confirming program participation and completed (or in process) community agreement with Minneapolis are due by April 29, 2011.

Confirmation letters can be sent by mail or electronically to:

Jamez Smith
BWTC Bike Parking Enrollment, Transit for Livable Communities,  626 Selby Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55104

Email: Jamezs(at)tlcminnesota.org

Communities that choose to participate will be responsible for developing a plan set of installation locations, including relevant documentation (sample plan set and documents available on BWTC website) and provide for installation of the bike parking within 30 days of delivery. Communities are encouraged to engage relevant stakeholders to prioritize bike parking needs, help develop plans, and help cover installation costs.

This program has been developed to greatly reduce the administrative burden for recipient communities, with TLC and the city of Minneapolis completing much of the groundwork, including the bid award and contract process.  For communities where this reduced administrative role is still as a burden, TLC has the capacity to provide limited technical assistance with the application and to work with communities to identify workable bike parking strategies.

More information about the Bike Parking Program, including allotments for eligible communities, can be found on the Bike Walk Twin Cities web site.  Questions about the program can be directed to Tony Hull 651-789-1404 tonyh[at]tlcminnesota.org.
