Projects

The Bike Walk Twin Cities initiative provides funding to innovative bicycling and walking projects located in Minneapolis and its neighboring communities.

The board of directors at Transit for Livable Communities is the decision-making entity for the initiative. Working closely with agency partners and an advisory committee, the board determines which projects receive funding.

The City of Minneapolis Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot website provides detail on the progress of each project. Just click on different lines or text boxes on the map and it will take you to each project. Updates are at the bottom of each page.

Planning Planning projects help communities address places that are difficult for walking or bicycling. Recommendations that result from these studies may be implemented in later funding rounds. More»	Livable Streets Livable streets modify existing streets and sidewalks, making them more inviting and safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. More»
Off-Road Trails Off-road projects create new paths or greenways, provide access around barriers (like railroad crossings, rivers, or roads), or fill gaps in existing bicycling or walking networks. More»	Minneapolis Bike & Pedestrian Ambassador Program In 2007 the City of Minneapolis received funding to start a Bike Walk Ambassador program which in partnership with the Bike Walk Twin Cities and other community partners, encourages people in Minneapolis and neighboring communities to bike and walk more and drive less. Advocating for new opportunities
I walk and ride my bike and am working with my local neighborhood association, Metro Regional Chamber of Commerce and others to make sure that Minneapolis serves all residents well.

Bicyclist Use Full Lane

Watch for the first "Bicyclist Use Full Lane" sign on Marshall Ave in St. Paul. It may look like this. The sign acknowledges how cyclists can travel more safely on the downhill to the river, and alerts motorists to give clearance by passing in the left lane. Don't be shy—position your bicycle in the center of the lane and hold your position.
