Livable StreetsLivable Streets

Livable streets modify existing streets and sidewalks, making them more inviting and safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. The streets are often more appealing to those who live, work, or travel along them. Transit for Livable Communities has funded projects that narrow or reduce the number of car lanes, lower speed limits, and repair broken sidewalks, among other improvements.

Como Avenue Bicycle & Pedestrian Improvements

This project would reconfigure traffic lanes on Como Avenue to accommodate on-street bicyclists.

Marshall Avenue: Mississippi River Blvd to Cretin Avenue

This project will provide a sidewalk, an eastbound bike lane and "Share the Road" signs for westbound bicyclists on Marshall Avenue between Cretin Avenue and the Lake Street Bridge. Other amenities include countdown timers at the two signalized intersections with pedestrian walk signs, planted medians, bus shelter, bike racks, improved lighting and a dynamic speed display sign.

NE Suburban Campus Connector (NESCC)

The Northeastern Suburban Campus Connector Bike/Pedestrian Project connects the three communities of Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, and Roseville to both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses of the University of Minnesota.  The project consists of the construction of bike and pedestrian facilities to create safer, more pleasant street.  The project creates bicycle and pedestrian facilities for all levels of users including commuter and recreational bicyclists, access to local businesses, dining, and retail for pedestrians, and for walkers trying to improve their health.

Richfield Parkway Stage 2 Pedestrian/Bikeway Trail

This project will construct a walking/biking trail on the west side of Richfield Parkway to 63rd Street and also continue the trail through the Park to 62nd Street in Richfield. A raised median will be built where the trail crosses the new Parkway, which will help people cross the street more safely. A public gathering space will also be provided.
